| CEILIDH
|
Kentucky
Scottish Weekend is proud of the reputation its Ceilidh has
achieved in the past few years as a rollicking good time, and
this year’s version will be better than ever.
Ceilidh (kay-lee) is a Gaelic word which means “sing-a-long”.
Today’s usage describes a variety show with a Celtic theme.
This year’s Ceilidh will include, among others, an excellent
pipe band, open grade musicians (including our piping and drumming
judges), a variety of dancers, and everybody’s choice – Alex
Beaton as both Master of Ceremonies and featured entertainer.
There will probably be some surprises, as well.
The Ceilidh is held on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the
Main Tent. Admission for the evening will be $10 for adults,
$5 for children 6-12, and children under 6 are admitted free
(as are our Sponsors and Patrons). Soft drinks will be available
during the evening.

| BONNIEST
KNEES AND WELLY TOSS |
Two
of the activities of the KSW are slightly unusual – The Bonniest
Knees Competition for gentlemen and The Welly Toss for ladies
– both of which will be held on Sunday afternoon.
The Bonniest Knees: The Bonniest Knees Contest, understandably
enough is limited to men in kilts or shorts – or those who are
willing to roll up their trousers. For those of you unfamiliar
with this event, you’re in for a treat – as are those lucky
gentlemen competing! Picking the “best” set of knees sounds
easy, but our blindfolded, female judges must evaluate the knobby
competitors through feel alone. Come to think of it, the judges
are in for a treat too! If you’re interested in competing in
the Bonniest Knees Contest, or in entering your significant
other, register at the Information Tent on Sunday at 11 a.m.
The Welly Contest: Ladies of all ages compete in the Welly Toss.
It’s a time honored tradition in Scotland for women to throw
their men’s Wellies (short for Wellington Boots) to emphasize
the lassies’ ability to “give them the boot.” The KSW continues
this ancient tradition of the Welly Toss. Ladies grasp the boot
in the most comfortable hold, bend from the waist, building
momentum with three swings, and then toss the boot over their
head. The one with the longest throw is the champion. (We requested
a used boot of the Queen some years ago, but she regretted that
she could not comply). All ladies are encouraged to sign up
at the Information Tent on Sunday and join the fun!
(Actually, these “time-honored” Scottish traditions are anything
but, yet they are enjoyable, humorous events to wind down the
KSW. Even if you don’t compete, stay around and enjoy the fun!)

| ALLAN
MILLER'S BORDER COLLIES |
Alan
Miller is keeping with the family tradition and working with
Border Collies as did his father, Harold. The Millers obtained
Border Collies to assist them with daily farm work. Harold Miller
found their help to be invaluable due to the fact that he was
a Vocational Agriculture teacher and farming full-time. He also
recognized a need for working dogs in Kentucky especially in
the dairy industry. At the request of some county fairs, some
demonstrations were given. His goal in the demonstrations was
to educate while entertaining. It has been over forty years
and the Millers are still rearing Border Collies and demonstrating
their abilities.

| BRITISH
CAR SHOW |
Officers:
President Robert Reid 513-271-7964
V. President Larry Hutchinson 859-781-2838
Secretary Earl Falter 513-777-2094
Treasurer Bill Rump 513-896-7930
The British Car Club of Greater Cincinnati has been in existence
for over 10 years. It was formed by a group of people interested
in British cars such as MG, Triumph, Jaguar, Austin Healey,
Rolls Royce, Bentley, and many other makes and marquees that
are not as well known.
We meet on the second Wednesday of each month to discuss car
shows, car drives, restoration, current events, the weather,
and any other thing that we find interesting at the time. During
the summer months we have our meetings at an outdoor location
so that we can enjoy our cars and see what the “other guy” has
done since we last saw his car. The meetings are friendly and
not too formal and we are always happy to see guests or potential
members at our meetings.
We sponsor two car shows each year. The first is the British
Car Show at the Kentucky Scottish Weekend in Carrollton, KY.
The second is the British Car Day in Cincinnati. If you have
any interest in British Cars, you will find belonging to our
organization fun and educational. More information is available
by calling any of our officers listed above.
