ATHLETICS
The Scottish Athletic Events are as unique to Scotland as are tartan
and bagpipes. Almost any person you ask will know them as, those
guys who play with telephone poles. The seven events traditionally
contested have a long history, with their origins hidden by the
mists of time. While a few may have been contested as feats of strength
by soldiers vying for positions in the Military, we suspect that
they really started of with, Hey, yall, watch this! Over the
years, rules have evolved, and are followed by the men and women
who compete in the Heavy Events.
The Athlete of the Day winner automatically qualifies for the East
Coast Championship contested at the Virginia Scottish Games later
in the year. At KSW, our amateur events are sanctioned and judged
by officials from Mid-Atlantic Scottish Athletics. David S. McKenzie
has been the Head Judge for the past 24 years.
